Publishing comments

On hamiltonurbanblog.co.nz (HUB), users can comment on content. HUB does not moderate all comments, all comments will be instantly published. Unless, comments from the posters who have never posted before will not be published immediately, but after they have had one comment approved they will.

You can post comments under an “anonymous” user name if you wish, but you must supply your email address (which will not be published on HUB).

We make no commitment to post comments on HUB and we may remove or re-post any comment at any time.  We accept no responsibility for comments by any user that are displayed on HUB.

Your comment’s content

Commenters are guests and are asked to behave accordingly. Treat other members of the community with civility and respect. If you see disrespectful behavior, please report it to us rather than inflaming the situation. The editors’ decisions on these matters are final.

HUB’s editors decide what is acceptable. We reserve the right to delete comments and suspend accounts as we see fit.

Grounds for suspension  include:

i.    Obsessive arguing in a thread or threads

ii.    Repeated statements without supporting evidence

iii.    Blatant promotion of products and/or services

Be nice to HUB volunteers

We have high standards but are run by volunteers in our spare time so we do make mistakes. If you disagree with something we have done, get in touch via email.

  1. Hilda Ross Retirement Village and Ruakura Road

    Before Christmas a 91 year old resident of Hilda Ross retirement village was killed around midday on a traffic light controlled, 2-stage pesdestrian crossing outside the village: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/100078127/pedestrian-struck-by-truck-dies-in-hamilton

    I have parents at this village and the death raises several issues.

    1) In terms of location, it is either unfortunate or poor planning to have a large retirement village cut off from its main regular shopping opportunity for residents (a supermarket) by a very wide 4 lane road. My understanding is that a number of residents make the trip across to the supermarket as part of their regular routine.

    3) Could better signage be provided, and maybe even a way for elderly residents to ‘hack’ the lights for a longer crossing time? See this Dutch example: https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2017/jul/12/dutch-app-elderly-hack-pedestrian-crossings

    I note that NZTA currently does not have a specific sign for elderly pedestrians (for example, similar to that shown in the above Dutch article). According to their manual, they have a permanent warning sign (PW-29) for pedestrians to which you can add an ‘elderly’ label:

    Given the growing number of elderly residents, this seems like an oversight that needs attention.
